How googlycoupon makes its money

Some links on this site earn us a commission. That is the whole business model, and we would rather you heard it from us on page one than worked it out later.

01

The short answer

googlycoupon is free to use, and it is funded by commission. When you follow some of our links to a store and buy something, that store or its affiliate network pays us a small share of the sale.

That is it. There is no subscription, no paywall and no data being sold to make up the difference. If you want the detail of how we handle information, that is on our Privacy policy page.

02

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is an ordinary link with a tag on the end that tells the store where the visitor came from. Here is what happens when you use one:

  1. You click a button or code on googlycoupon.
  2. We pass you to the store, and the store records that the visit came from us.
  3. You shop and check out on the store's own site, at the store's own price.
  4. If you buy, the store reports a sale to us as a number and pays a commission.

We are told that a sale happened, not who made it. We do not see your name, your basket, your card or your address.

03

How to spot one here

You do not have to guess. Every outgoing link to a store on this site is marked in the page code as paid or sponsored, which is the standard browsers and search engines read.

What a store link looks like

Go to store rel="nofollow sponsored"

Links like this may earn us a commission. They open the store in a new tab, and nothing is added to your cart along the way.

Assume that any link from googlycoupon to a shop may be an affiliate link. Links inside the site — to a store page, a guide or a category — never are.

04

What it costs you

Nothing. Commission is paid by the store out of its own margin. Your total at checkout is identical whether you arrive through googlycoupon, through a search engine, or by typing the store's address yourself.

You are also never required to use our links. Copy a code, open the store yourself and paste it in — the code works just the same, and we are glad you saved the money.

05

Why money cannot buy a listing

This is the part that matters. A coupon site is only worth visiting if the codes work, so commission is kept out of the decision entirely.

Decides what we list
  • Did the code work in a real cart
  • Did the cart total actually drop
  • When it was last re-tested
  • How much it saves a shopper
Decides nothing
  • Whether a store pays us
  • How much the commission is
  • Whether a store is a partner
  • What a store would like us to say

A code from a store that pays us well and a code from a store that pays us nothing go through exactly the same checkout test, and both come off the page the moment they stop working. The full set of rules is in our Editorial policy.

06

Partner stores

Some stores work with us directly rather than through a network. They can send us codes early and tell us when an offer is about to change, which is useful — it means we can test something before the sale starts.

What being a partner does not buy is a shortcut. A partner's code is tested like everyone else's, it is removed like everyone else's when it fails, and it is never marked as working on a store's say-so. If you run a shop and want to work with us, the Partners page explains how.

07

What we never do

  • We never charge you to see a code, and we never put one behind a sign-up.
  • We never publish a code we have not tried in a real cart.
  • We never leave a dead code up because the store pays well.
  • We never write a review or a rating in exchange for payment.
  • We never add anything to your basket, and we never change your price.

If you ever find us falling short of one of these, tell the desk. That is a problem we want to hear about.

08

Changes to this page

If the way we earn money changes — a new kind of partnership, or anything that could affect what you see — we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top.

Think a code is up for the wrong reason?

Say so. We re-test reported codes first, and a dead code comes down whether or not the store pays us.
