How to shop Labor Day sales

The last big sale of summer

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, closes the summer with one of the year's four big appliance and mattress weekends. It also clears out summer stock, so grills, patio sets and summer clothing hit some of their lowest prices of the year. Many 2026 sales started the week before and ran well after: Home Depot and Lowe's to 9 September, several mattress brands to mid-September.

Appliances: last year's models

New appliance models often arrive in the autumn, which helps last year's go cheap at Labor Day. In 2026 Best Buy went up to 45% off and Home Depot up to 40% on dishwashers. Compare delivery, installation and haul-away, which can wipe out the difference between two stores.

End-of-summer clearance

  • Clothing: 50–75% off summer styles at Lands' End, Gap, J.Crew and Lululemon in 2026.
  • Patio and grills: the lowest prices of the season, with thin choice. Check what is left in your size and colour before you get excited about the percentage.
  • Coolers and drinkware: Yeti and Stanley ran 30–40% off.

Mattress sales outlast the weekend

In 2026 Helix and Birch ran to 13 September, Leesa, Purple and Serta to 15 September, and Mattress Firm to 29 September. There is no need to rush on the Monday, but compare with what the same brand charged on Memorial Day before you buy.
